Norma P. Boyd is the Church Clerk and Director of Pastoral Care Ministry at Bethany Baptist Church. She joined the church and became Bishop David G. Evans’ secretary in 1991. In 1993, she transitioned into the position of Church Clerk and subsequently in 2001 accepted the tasks of Administrator and Co-Director of the Pastoral Care Ministry. In recognition of her work in the Pastoral Care Ministry, Pastor Evans elevated her to Director in 2004. Norma oversees member roles, discipleship class and graduation, the church calendar, and the following telephone ministries: New Members, Sick and Shut-ins, Visitors, Missing-in-Action, and Bereavement.

Norma has always had a heart for people. As a child, she was trained to picture herself in another person’s plight in life. This is based on the biblical principle, “There, but for the grace of God, go I.” Thus, she has focused her life on helping people who are less fortunate. Her past work includes investigating complaints regarding discrimination based on race, sex, and handicaps at colleges and universities in six states for 12 years for the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights. She was also a member of the Lawnside, New Jersey, Scholarship Club that provides scholarships for high school seniors. Presently, she is a member of the South Jersey Continentals, a member of the Continental Societies, Inc. This organization provides financial support for underprivileged youth in the areas of recreation, health, and college scholarships.

Life Scripture
"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." (Matthew 7:12)

In 1976, Norma graduated from Camden County College, then continued her studies at Temple and Rutgers universities until she enrolled as a matriculating student at Lincoln University. On May 1, 1983, she received a Master’s degree in Human Services. A lifelong learner, Norma holds a ranking title from Toastmasters, Inc., and a GRI realtor designation. Currently, she is gaining greater biblical knowledge at the Abundant Harvest Bible Institute, where she plans to earn a certificate in leadership studies.

Norma is humbled that her life at Bethany has been a rewarding journey of love and compassion for others. She testifies that, under the guidance of Bishop Evans, she has learned to pray, trust in God, and understand that only God is the source of any successes we have in life. In addition, she has been educated about the power of grace and mercy, and taught to worship God regardless of her circumstances. Norma says she realizes that “God satisfies the desires of all who call upon Him, fear Him, and love Him.” This liberating belief enables her to experience personal freedom in her life.

Norma was a devoted wife to her late husband, Al. Vincent and Michael are her two sons, and she is the grandmother of three: Jonathan, Joshua, and Chelsea.
